Outfit: Summer Style in the City

I know it's not summer yet, but the recent heat spike has got me convinced that summer is here.
Now summer is always a problem for me...
I love the sun, don't get me wrong, but the overbearing heat and humidity that come along with this season in my part of the world... well it can ruin your hair, melt your makeup off your face and make it very difficult to dress up in the morning.  I'm a girl that loves to layer and have numerous pieces strung together for an overall look.  The summer forces me to don a gauzy super thin dress (so as not to die from heat exhaustion) and not much else.
I'm figuring out how to stay stylish, without having to sacrifice my comfort and my cool.
Here is my outfit from our NYC adventure this weekend.  We spent the morning in Brooklyn and then our afternoon in Soho.  To say we walked a lot would be an understatement but I stayed pretty comfortable all while looking put together...
     The trick?
The gauzy, light fabric of my top.  It helped me stay cool, even with the humidity and heat.  I think I'll need to invest in more tops like this! Also featured... my $10 skirt from UO.  I'm in love with the rivulet pattern going across the item.  I have a feeling this may become one of my favorite pieces.  Only time will tell!

Weekend Wrap-Up: Road Trip, NYC & The Beach

As you can tell from the title, my MDW was go, go, go, go...

Friday: My sister and I drove to Maryland (as I had the day off).  My cousin had her confirmation
and I was lucky enough to be chosen as her sponsor!  I dolled her up, had fun with my fam
and then got back in my car to drive home Saturday morning (EARLY... to beat Memorial
                  Day traffic)

Saturday: My day of rest. After driving for a total of 8 hours on both days, I wanted to veg.  So
what did Andre & I do? Oh we veg'd.

Sunday: New York City was calling our names, so we answered. Dre & I spent the morning in
Brooklyn, strolling around & checking out cute little shops & eateries.  We stumbled
upon Almondine and then bought a pack of macarons. They were pretty & so so good!
After our Brooklyn cravings were satisfied, we took the subway into Soho, walked
around for a bit & then grabbed some Pinkberry!! A trip to the city isn't complete unless
the California girl in me has had some Pinkberry! The best time to go to Soho?  When
everyone else is at the beach :)

Monday: After our yummy breakfast of waffles topped with vanilla mascarpone, nuts & dried
cranberries... We caved in & headed to the beach where we laid around, basked in the
sun and spent time with my cousins at their beach house.  Oh yes, & I also bought
another pack of macarons.  I don't know if it's because they remind me of my time in
Paris or because they're just so cute, but I was obsessed this weekend!

Here are the photos that I snapped over the four days!
     How was your MDW?! :)

my sister, my beautiful cousin and me. lookin' snazzy & ready to go!

Side-By-Side Style: Shopping in Soho

   The sun is shining today!
For how long... that remains to be seen.
I was going through my computer's folders this morning & realized I had never posted my outfit from my recent trip to Soho! It features a dress I got from Target (Target has amazing finds... you just have to look).  This dress is so sweet. It features an adorable print, comes with a chevron belt and only cost me $6.48. Yes, you read that correctly.  I love digging around the clearance racks because you never know what you'll find, especially what you'll find for less than a bottle of good nail polish!
On that day, I had also snapped pictures of my boyfriend's outfit.  I had every intention of doing a "boyfriend style" post, but I think that from now on... the "boyfriend" posts will become "side-by-side" posts, featuring both of our outfits for that specific day.  Not that we like to match or anything, but let's face it, ladies... as much as we girls like to dress up and get dolled up, there's nothing worse than looking adorable only to have your man next to you in khaki cargo shorts and a dirty t-shirt. It kills your style, as well as your mood...
So without further blabbing... here is a look at our side-by-side style in Soho.

Outfit: Little Lady in Shorts

   Hello, all!
Here is my outfit from this past Sunday! I spent the afternoon walking around and just enjoying the scenery so my outfit is quite relaxed, hence the shorts.  Despite the casual nature, I fancied it up a bit with a necklace and a pretty top with some lace detail.  I stayed pretty classic with my color palette but added a pop of color with my newest handbag (the one I'm obsessed with & wear pretty much everywhere).
Here it is, my best attempt at being ladylike while donning a pair of khaki shorts!

Top: H&M
Shorts: Old Navy
Necklace: Francesca's Collections
Sunglasses: UO
Handbag: Rebecca Minkoff

Instagram Weekend Wrap-Up

   Hello, all!
   It's Monday... boo!!
To make matters worse, it's pouring outside my window. Torrential rain kind of pouring... No fun.
Before I pop on over to the gym to work off all my weekend treats, I wanted to post up a "Weekend Wrap-Up."  Dre & I relaxed, putting in a few trips to some stores, the Rumson shores, eating goodies & having a lazy Sunday (super lazy... we slept in & then cooked comfort food).  I still have a killer cough that refuses to go away, so day trips were out of the question.
I did pick up a skirt at UO, pictured below, for $10. Sweet deal.  I can't wait to style it up!!
We also spent the afternoon in Rumson, one of my favorite locales.  Home to Bruce Springsteen.  It's an enclave for the wealthy filled with gorgeous mansions, views of the Navesink River, little shops, and just an ideal picturesque image of a charming East Coast town.
So without further ado, here is my weekend wrap-up via Instagram!

1 - Sushi is my favorite food! This roll was ah-mazing. It was super spicy & super awesome.
 -x-
2 & 3 - Friday night, Dre & I had a sweet craving that wouldn't quit. It was 9:15pm. An open bakery was no where to be found.  So where did we go?  Whole Foods.  We picked up a mini raspberry vanilla cheesecake & a mini triple chocolate mousse cake. Both were small pieces of perfection. Whole Foods never fails me...
-x-
4 & 5 - As you can tell... it was a very food centered weekend, but who doesn't love food?  This pizza was yum. Ricotta, moz & Italian sausage all topped onto a thin crust that was thrown into a brick oven. Delicious. Dre took the pizza's yumminess quite seriously... Although he didn't appreciate my photo taking skills while he was in mid-bite. Sorry hunnie...
-x-
6 - After our pizza lunch, we went shopping, where I picked up some new nail colors (Butter's "Henley Regatta," Essie's "Need a Vacation" and O.P.I.'s "Room for the Blues")  They were then happily greeted by my other bottles and welcomed into the fold once I went home.
-x-
7 & 8 - While shopping, I snapped this @ UO. Dre was trying on that shirt while I held on to my newest purchase, an orange skirt with rivulets running across. It was $10, well $9.99 to be exact. It was a stylish deal. That's all that matters.
-x-
9 & 10 - We spent Sunday morning just laying in bed. The epitome of laziness. Then we picked ourselves up, got dressed & then headed out to Rumson so we could sit and stare out at the river. Also... the epitome of laziness... BUT in a nicer locale with cute outfits on!! There were kids playing along the riverbank while we sat and talked the afternoon away. The last shot just symbolizes a perfect sweet Sunday to me. Playful, laid back and beautiful.

So there it is... my weekend wrap-up!
Have a wonderful Monday!!!!!
(as wonderful as it can be, being that it is a Monday...)

Fashion Finds: UO Pick-Me-Ups

   Hello, all!
My sniffles are subsiding, but one killer cough just refuses to go away.
I took a quick trip to an adorable town close by with little shops, boutiques and a giant UO.  Instead of taking a dose of cough medicine, I hoped that retail therapy would perk me up.
   It most certainly did.
I didn't get much, but what I did manage to pick up... well, I've thoroughly fallen in love with. As you'll see, I'm still print-happy.  Like my last haul, I've been gravitating towards prints, prints and more prints.  I love solids, don't get me wrong, but with the gorgeous weather coming our way, I want a little pop when it comes to my clothes and I think an adorable print is just the thing to achieve that!
I also picked up two bracelets from one of my favorite boutiques, Nirvana.  It's like Soho crammed into a medium sized space without all the craze and crowds, and while the clothes are sometimes ridiculously overpriced - just like Soho - their accessories are always  something to gawk at, crave and then buy.
Hopefully I'll be 100% by tomorrow & the outfit posts can resume.  Until then... here are some fashion finds!

a dress & skirt from UO. both were on sale & when i tried them on, i had to have them
the dress has pockets, fun colors & a cut out design in the back. the only downside is that it's very sheer. i'll have to wear a slip underneath. no question about that.
this skirt was all lonely on the sale rack. i love black and white, so i fell for this hard. & when i put it on, it has an interesting shape. plus, once i get a petticoat to put under it, it'll make for a great flared out piece. i'm excited
the bracelets correspond to what i picked up, which is funny cause i bought the bracelets before the dress & skirt. maybe i had retail precognition... hmm...
i love the coral in this bracelet and once i brought it home & started stacking it with what i already had, i knew this would be a new favorite. as for the black and white? it goes with anything. & i can always use another bangle
